Jan Batiste Adkins has lived in California for the last thirty year and has taught in Bay Area middle, high Schools, and community colleges for the past sixteen years.  With a Master’s degree from San Jose State University, Jan has a love for local literature and history.

African Americans of Monterey County documents the successes of African Americans throughout Monterey County and encourages schoolchildren and adults to read about their local history. It celebrates the rich African American experience as seen in photographs from area archives, museums, local newspapers, historical societies, libraries, and family oral histories.
